Machine learning is changing the world, and everyone will benefit if communities work together to develop it. Most data science teams find it hard to collaborate. Fundamental differences between the data science and software development workflows means that existing tools are not suitable. Once it is easy to collaborate, Open Source Data Science will become a reality. The basis for frictionless collaboration is the ability to understand what others have done, and the ability to pick up where they left off. It should be as easy as “git checkout”. If you have to ask for instructions, or pull together information from multiple data sources, then most of the time, you won’t bother. Collaboration will be incredibly slow and difficult for teams and communities. DagsHub is a web platform based on open source tools, optimized for data science and oriented towards the open source community. It is a central location where projects can be hosted, discovered, and collaborated on by contributors. DagsHub was created to be a home for open source data science, where everyone can contribute and make the research and development process transparent, inclusive and better for everyone. To help developers in the fields of Machine Learning (ML) and Data Science (DS) create and learn from each other. We believe that technology should help us focus on tackling the most interesting and important challenges in life. The software engineering community has spent a lot of time and done a pretty good job of standardizing project management and version control.
